Christa Whiteman was a mountaineer and rock climber before she became a hunter in the woods of New York. All three voices on the Artemis podcast this week learned to hunt as adults. It's a steep learning curve. When you're new, you can't always tell whether you're doing it wrong, or whether you're just not finding game. But there's joy in the journey, and Christa tells us what that looks like for her.

30 - Christa Whiteman, everyone -- president of the unofficial Artemis Fan Club! (find her on Insta)

00 - Sad freezer situation. Does anyone else have major guilt over tossing the old, freezer-burned stuff? We're calling it the apocalypse backup package.

40 - Chiropractor/holistic healer by day, and looking to the animal world for clues on how we, humans, can be healthy, too. A lion doesn't need to run on a treadmill to be fit. What can we learn from that?

00 - An outdoorswoman's journey - from rock climbing and mountaineering to hunting

25 - Learning to hunt as an adult

00 - The Artemis Moon Program

00 - Ending the hunting season with an empty freezer, what Northeasterners call "seed time," and husbands are hunting widows, too.

00 - When you're new, you can't always tell whether you're doing it wrong, or whether your lack of success is normal. Am I walking quietly enough? Do I smell like a human?

30 - Hunting whitetail as a habitat service to other plants/animals

00 - Sometimes people think of hunting season as a finite window of game time, but preparedness in the off-season matters for in-season success

00 - Physical and mental conditioning for hunting

30 - The horrible, awful, no-good, very-bad feeling of taking and missing a shot (...twice), and then not taking your next good shot.

40 - Hunting isn't a meritocracy

00 - A hunter's catch-22: We all want our own elbow room to hunt, but if we don't recruit new hunters, we may not have a sport anymore.

00 - "Plan the hunt, hunt the plan."
